Ham Fest planning
Prescott said he had talked with Joel Domschot
some time ago and received approval for the Fire Academy to host the Ham
Fest. It is on the Academy's calendar.
Jim Boswell said the vender gave them $18 in
tips last year, but he made over $100 profits the year before when he
cooked. The consensus was that Jim should not be tied up with cooking,
but be available for Ham Fest activities. It is good to have the vender
so fewer people will leave the Ham Fest for lunch and possibly not
return for the afternoon.
Vern reported that Creative Graphics can make
100 patches for $1.00 per patch. It was suggested that Vern and Prescott
order the shirts and caps (with patch, name and call sign) it time so we
can wear them to the Albuquerque Ham Fest.
New Business:
Penny would like to invite one of the local
candidates to speak at one of our meetings. It was felt that if we did this
for one then we could not refuse others candidates and it might become too
much. By a vote the request was denied with one nay registered by
Vern.
Penny is teaching this summer at the Youth Building
behind Spin City. She would like to purchase a white board and wondered if
SARA might donate $100. David Hunter (KF5AVI) said he might be able to get
an old chalk board in good condition from Tech.
Bill Brundage (NM5WB) announced that the Chile
Harvest Triathlon will be held Friday, Aug. 6 at 6:00 PM for the youth and
Saturday, Aug.7 at 7:00 AM for the adults. He asked for two volunteers for
Friday (5:30 - 7:00 PM) and eight volunteers for Saturday. [volunteers for
Sat.: Prescott, Dave Johnson, Vern, Doug, Bear and Dave Finley]
Kalman Oravecz (AJ5B) called for a round of applause
for David Johnson who has been nominated for Emeritus status at New Mexico
Tech [The Regents meet on Friday, July 16]. The members responded with much
good natured enthusiasm.
