SARA MEETING MINUTES - March 11, 2009 (approved April 8, 2009)
Call to Order: Meeting called to order by president at 7:30pm. There were no visitors to introduce.
Announcements: Per an article in the current QST, access to the 40 meter band for Regions 1 and 3 will open at the end of the month as foreign broadcasters must vacate this part of the spectrum at that time.
Approval of Minutes: Motion moved and seconded to accept the minutes of the previous meeting. Passed.
Treasurer's Report: As of February 28, 2009 with no outstanding debts: SARA $5947.02 TARA $320.08
ARES Report: Nothing new.
LEPC Report: IS-700 course reviewed at last meeting. Trying to get members current on ICS requirements.
Discussion followed this report regarding training for SARA/ARES members in the ICS requirements. IS-700, IS-800, IS-100 and IS-200 are available on line (training.fema.gov). Members should take these courses to understand procedures during emergency operations. Possibility of doing some parts of this training at monthly meetings.
Adopt a Park: Discussion of the possibility of SARA participating in the Adopt a Park program, checking park for vandalism, cleanliness, etc. A committee will visit the available parks and make a selection.
Hamfest: Discussion on moving Hamfest date to an earlier date and different location. ARES meeting is a large draw, but more than the largest classroom at the Fire Academy can handle. Discussion of moving that meeting to another venue, however most felt that this would take away from the Hamfest and cost is a factor. Possibility of using tents from city at the Academy. Committee established to look into the use of the tent.
Motion moved and seconded to keep October 31st date for this year. Passed.
Discussion of bulk mailing privileges with the Chamber of Commerce mailing permit. Post Office is requiring letter of membership in the organization to use permit. Committee established to look into solution.
New Business: Discussion of possibility of adding SARA to service organization signs within city. Bear Albrecht has been invited to speak at the Rotary Club meeting in reference to LEPC and will include SARA and ARES in his presentation.
Good of the Organization: The club station has been activated for two sessions recently for QSO parties. The hope is that members, especially those who do not have full spectrum privileges will attend and use the club equipment under the watchful eye of the club's Extra License operators. So far, turnout has been low, but results have been excellent; 40 plus DX contacts during last session. There are state QSO parties and special events coming up. This is your opportunity to use your membership in SARA!
Adjournment: Meeting adjourned at 8:35pm.
Ed Wood, Acting Secretary
