Minutes of the SARA Meeting

The meeting was held in the LEPC office on Court Street.

Call to order: by Ed Wood at 7:42 PM.

Announcements: Brian N5ZGT has advised that the ARRL Rocky Mountain Division convention will take place July 29 thru 31 near Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah.

Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as posted on the web site.

Treasurer's report: The checking account stands at $3911.36, and the TARA account is unchanged. There is Non-Profit First Report from the Public Regulation Commission to be signed at the end of the meeting, and Treasurer has a meeting later in the week to do IRS paperwork.
Treasurer's report accepted.

Committee reports:

ARES/LEPC - Jon Spargo.

Weather radio - nothing heard from the state. Had a meeting with Bob Tacker, and it looks good for siting the transmitter and antenna on M Mountain assuming we come up with the funding.

NIMS Class: Good turnout, mostly hams.

Severe Storm Spotting Class - will be repeated, the first week of August, daytime

ARES trailer: back from repair. All of the damage was repaired, and the roof was completely rebuilt, membrane over plywood. Work sessions
were discussed, and it was decided to have one session next Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 PM, to plan and schedule further work.

Clubhouse antenna(s) Bill Brundage reported that the club had been given a triband vertical (144, 220, 440 MHz), a 38-foot Rohn 45G tower, and a rotor, and some thinwall aluminum tubing, which partly comprised a boom for a log-periodic antenna (some parts are missing).  As to the Clubhouse itself, this meeting had to be moved, as the Socorro Electric Coop has again housed somebody in the clubhouse without notifying us. We are considering looking for other options.  In addition to meeting space, there are the issues of storage of equipment, installation of a station complete with antennas in a manner conducive to having it operational, and storage of the trailer.

Old Business:

A-Bomb anniversary - Dave Finley: The club will not be setting up a special event station at Trinity Site, but another group will.  Members who wish to participate individually may do so, contact Paul Harden, , or call NRAO at 835-7000 and ask for him.

Field Day - Vern Leavitt will be wrangling the food; a budget of $100 was approved. The call sign will be W5AQA; the Datil gang (which used that call sign last year) will not be in operation this year.

The idea of a special event station for the county fair was not discussed.

The Fire School Anniversary & Parade will as usual happen in early August, and the ARES net will be run from there that week.

New Business:

Bill Brundage: Striders & Riders sent a thank-you note for the help with their last event, Cerrillos del Coyote cross-country mountain bike race, and a letter asking for help with the next, August 13, the Chile Harvest Triathlon. More details and signups at the next meeting.

Hamfest - need to get the information to QST soon. There was some discussion about classes etc., and whether to get speakers.

Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:38 PM.
