Minutes of the SARA Meeting

SARA Meeting Minutes September 8, 2004

Call to Order: at 1932 hours by Ed Wood KD5MFS.

Introduction of Guests: Mark Dombrowski, coordinator of the Fat Tire Fiesta

Special Announcements: n/a

Report of the Secretary: Minutes were not received by members via email; although they had been sent.

Report of the Treasurer: approved. One outstanding bill for hardware.

Reports of Committees:

Public Relations - Dave Finley N1IRZ reported no new publicity.

Getting the Club Legal - Ryan Snyder KC5WDT said there is an accountant in Socorro working on it, and should be available by next meeting.

ARES & Communications Trailer - Jon Spargo KC5NTW informed us that 3 of the 4 wheels on the trailer are done and the door latch is working. Steve Grossman W6TZI, Jon Spargo KC5NTW and Glenn Mauger WB5OAF will be meeting to do the annex for the LEPC. Another solar panel is needed for the frame.

Reworking the Mountain - Dave Johnson KB5YIW said the .680 machine is all done except for the solar panels. Bob Sparks returned the cavities, putting out 23w, has been heard from Albuquerque, Stallion Site, T or C and Carrizozo. TERA has expressed some interest in a 220/440 crossband. Hancock to coordinate the 220 system, and the autopatch is working. The 750 machine is no longer needed, but can be remotely programmed. It will not be automatic if disconnected from the .68 machine.

Old Business:

Triathlon - Bill Brundage K8HUH reported that there was a record turnout, nearly 300 participants, and thank you notes have been received.

Ham Fest - 

October 30, 2004 at NMFTA 8:00 to 3:00. 

Vendors to set up Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Saturday from 7:00 am to 8:00am. 

Table charge and tailgate charge are both $10 each. 

Vern Leavitt KD5UHB is to make reservations with El Sombrero for the Friday night October 29 dinner at 7:00pm. 

Jon Spargo KC5NTW is willing to do a VLA tour at 1pm, but the star party was cancelled as it will be a bright moon. 

Ryan Snyder KC5WDT is obtaining Raffle prizes and door prizes; $1000 was previously approved. Discussion of prizes held. 

Ryan will also have 40 tables, but no chairs delivered on the 29th, and will get coffee and donuts; there was some discussion about charging for coffee and/or donuts. 

Glenn Mauger WB5OAF said that handhelds would be OK for the talk-in. 

Mailouts - Ryan is in charge of printing, and Dave Johnson KB5YIW is checking on postage. There will be NO CAMPING at the Academy.

Presenter Possibilities: there are 3 classrooms available for concurrent sessions.

VE Session - Kalman Oravecz AJ5B - Registraton will be in the main hall from 11:00 to 11:55, cost $12.00, the Test Time is at 12:00 noon in Classroom 2.
Paul Rhodes will set up transmitter for the Fox Hunt at 8:00am, and the hunt will be on foot. 
Bill Brundage K8HUH has a list of items for the Silent Auction. There will be job lists made up. Vern Leavitt KB5UHB will re-paint the arrows. 
Glenn Mauger WB5OAF presented the letter of approval to hold the hamfest from ARRL.

New Business:

Fat Tire Race - 

Sept. 18 & 19. Mark Dombrowski and Dave Johnson KB5YIW will need radio support on Saturday the 18th. Handhelds should be OK. 

The Copper Canyon ride is Sunday, and is jeep accessible. Cell phones will provide coverage as well. 

Volunteers - Glenn Mauger WB5OAF, Vern Leavitt KD5UHB, Jim Oty WB5GWH, Howard Peavy K9PV and Ed Wood KD5MFS, and possibly Tom Frawley KA0YYP.
